Hi there,

I just picked up my Mark V combo at the store yesterday (first one they had, been there for 5 days, now it's mine :D )

Went to te rehearsel straight after I got it and well, even though I had no clue what every switch did, I managed to get a fairly good sound out of it.
But I'll need to read up on how the amp works, and just need to start tweaking it I guess.

Anyway, my question is more of a Noob question

Obviously you can't get the footswitch out of it's pouch like that.
So the sales guy said I had to unscrew the backplate and get it out that way.

But I can't imagine that, if you leave the pouch in place, you would have to unscrew the whole backplate every tim you store or take out the footswitch!

So what do you guys do? Take out the pouch completely and store that somewhere. Or do you remove the tube protection grill, because I think that would improve access to the pouch.

If you take off the protective grill however, Is it safe to transport the combo lying down on it's back in car?

I could put the combo on my back seat, but then I would have to remove the wheels every time.... I could take off the wheels.... but this thing weighs a ton :)

thanks!

The protection grill pops in and out in about 15 seconds. You don't need to unscrew it like you would on some other combo amps.

Really?
I'll check that out tonight, thanks.

Another question, is it OK to hook a 4ohm cab to the amp and still use the internal speaker, which is connected to te 8ohm output.

What do you guys do with the combo version + a cab? Unhook the internal speaker or not?

See page 43 of the manual.

Well, I already had checked that page, but it said nothing about using 2 diffrent ohmages at the same time. Like in my case, the internal speaker at 8 ohm and my 2x12 cab at 4ohm (or 16)

See table of contents.
Then see pages 53-58 of the manual.

If your using a 4 ohm 2X12 cab I would just unhook the internal speaker when your using the cab because the load of that combination is a nightmare. If you multiply the load of the internal speaker (8 ohms) X the load of your cabinet (4 Ohms) then divide that by the sum of the 2 loads it comes out to 2.666 ohms which is bad for your amp, I don't think they like the load going down below 4 ohms.( (4X8=32) divided by (4+8=12)) = 2.666. If you had an 8 ohm cab then you simply plug the internal speaker and the 8 ohm cab into the 2 4 ohm jacks. 8X8=64 divided by 16 = 4 ohms. It would probably be hard to rewire your cab to a better ohmage because I'm guessing it's 2 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel. If you re-wired in series it would be additive so 16 ohms. Then you could at least get away with a safe mismatch by plugging the internal speaker into the 4 ohm jack and the now 16 ohm cab into the 8 ohm jack. Right now your two negative terminals are connected and the two positives are connected. What you want to do is from the positive terminal from the jack to positive on the first speaker, then from the negative of the first speaker to the positive of the second speaker and then from the negative of the second speaker to the negative of the jack.

Hope that helps.

Thanks litesnsirens, that's what I wanted to know.
My cab is switchable between 4 and 16 ohm, so If I want to run both the cab and the internal speaker I can use the safe mismatch that u mention.

Thanks!
