This is the current amp I have my eyes on for my rig upgrade. It was recommended to me by another forum, so I thought I'd keep it in mind when I was ready to upgrade, and now I think I am.

1) I can't seem to find any prices on the Mesa Boogies, and I was told because they don't sell online or advertise their products. As much as I hate Guitar Center, it seems that's my best bet for a walk-in purchase though.

But I've heard they run $900-1000, is that what I should expect to pay?

2) I'm currently not playing gigs on guitar, so I'm wondering how quiet this amp can get in a house setting for practicing. I know tubes generally sound better with some juice, but I won't be able to turn it up all the time.

And lastly 3) What is the average life span of the tubes? Again, I'm not gigging so it wouldn't be on the road yet, but I'd say I practice a few hours a day, every other day (might be every day once I get a new amp). Every couple of years? I've never had to replace tubes (though I'm probably in dire need of some), so I'm not sure how much tubes even run... and I hear lots of talk about Groovetubes, what is recommended? I know it's probably preference and based on the styles of music I'd be playing (mostly metal, but want good cleans as well).

My setup is pretty simple:

Guitar -> wah pedal -> Digitech GSP2101 -> soon to be new amp -> Two 2x12 speaker cabs.

Sorry for all the questions! But my old Crate amplifier has been on it's last breath for about a year now and I can't stand not being able to play anymore!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a 50/50 and as far as i know they're around the same. Sounds fine to my ears turned down. You can always take out a tube or two to take it down a notch or to get louder tone from a quieter amp.

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to acquire this amp within the next week or two (assuming Guitar Center has any in stock).
