Hey guys, finally got the 2:ninety I've been dreaming of for years, only to have a tube broken by DHL. I was looking around on these forums to see if anyone had any tube suggestions. My first question is if I can just replace the one tube with a similar one for the time being, or do I have to replace all four for that channel? [or all 8] I've only got one cab at the moment, so I'm not planning on using the second channel for awhile. Will having mismatched tubes on the one channel mess stuff up? Could I just pull the fuse/tubes out of the one side for now and leave it "off"? [I'm kindof anxious to get playing here, had to wait a week and a half for shipping because it's Christmas] I do plan on replacing all the tubes eventually here, just for sanity's sake. I'm thinking so far that I'm gonna go with eight GT 6L6GE's, based on some good reviews. Any other suggestions? Will I have to rebias the amp? [I'm new to tube power amps, and I've never had to mess with any of the tube pre's I have] For what it's worth, I'm running a TriAxis into a G Major into a dbx 166XL into the 2:ninety with a 1x12 closed back Thiele cab. Haven't heard the cab yet cause my tube's broke! Thanks for answering a new guy's questions!

if it's a used amp, you'd be better off with a full re-tube. with all that headroom you'll get a long life out of them so it's good investment. I recommend Eurotubes.com those guys are great.

i just retubed my 2:90 with the standard kit from eurotubes and it sounds great, well worth the investment. this amp was a waste of money until i got the new tubes.

and if youre only using one channel just turn the volume all the way down and the presence all the way up.
