Got this from a friend who works at the local GC. Pretty stoked to run it in unison with my Triple Recto!

What are good Preamp/Power tubes combos for these heads? I play metal/hardcore.

Found out it is a 2004 head. Looking at either Ruby 6L6GCMSTR's, JJ 6L6's, or TAD 6L6GC's. Anyone have experience with the Rubys?

Last time I tried to date mine, she nearly electrocuted me.... (i dont think that gets old)

i have only used groove tubes with my II,

those are what i have been buying as of late, I seem to like them. I play hard rock mostly... but dabble in metal, i have no issues getting KSE, or bullet for my valentine sounds (since thats what they use)

Anyone have experience with the Rubys?

When I first got my VH4S it came with Ruby EL34STRs. Since then I've had Groove Tubes and JJs in it and so far the Rubys sounded the best. Very good crunch and warm clean tones. Looking to try out some Ruby EL34BHTs from cryoset.com sometime soon.

I figured i would get that joke haha.
Those Grove Tubes look pretty awesome. What rating do you get for a Peavey?

-AJH

4-6 rating is the standard i think.. i try to get the 4. I dont really know how much different there might be, but i like to think that since the lower the number the easier it should break up, that i might be getting some power tube break up.

Hey man!

Cool score...the 5150 is a killer amp.

I'm not a fan of Ruby tubes...had a quad of 6L6s from them before, and honestly, I thought they sounded like poo.

I have a brand new quad of TAD 6L6s lying around if you want them.

PM me if so.

Eric

Thanks for the info man! You have been PM'd. This amp is LOUD. Not used to a non-master volume head, but it's fun! haha

its a great amp, and loud as you have found out... put it on 1 and its above bedroom volume.. although depending on where i sit i play between 1-1.75 for at home noodling (unless someone is home.. .then i dont play... or get a few minutes in at 1) it sounds horrible at a lower volume than that..

haha yeah, luckily I was home alone this weekend and was able to crank it to between 3 and 4..which is basically concert levels in decent sized clubs. You're right though, the sound you get when it's really low (between 0 and 1) sounds like a transistor radio. I can't wait to experiment with some tubes in it.
