OK, I am gearing up to get a Mesa Mark V. now I am not one to sell off gear. I have a long track record of keeping stuff. I study alot before I buy. Now, I have a custom Mesa Road King I ordered 10 years ago and I am glad I ordered something special. I will likely have the amp till I die. I am thinking of going custom on the Mark V order for the same reason. I think I am going to order a V30 in it instead of a C90 as well. anyhow..... the prices of the custom options have gone up considerably since I got my RK 10 years ago. to change vinyl color its $180 to get leather its $350 embossed leathers are $700 stained hardwoods are $820 and private reserve woods get up to $1400 (no chance of me getting that).

I will show you some examples from the mesa site. keep in mind, they are not all Mark V models, but just so you get the color ideas.

The ones I am considering are:

Purple vinyl and black grille cloth

Blue leather and black grille cloth

White vinyl and black

and this one is really wild, Oceania croco embossed leather.... but I would get it with a black grille cloth

ideas??? opinions? talk to me folks.

Im not exactly sure what your asking. I say get whatever speaks to you the most. I dont think there is a better or a worse in this situation because non of the variables have an effect on tone. So I say get whatever gets you the most excited. And dont worry about resale value as you plan on it being a keeper anyhow. I know for me though I would be getting Black italian leather with a purple flame faceplate. Id also have all the plastic knobs changed out for black Penn Elcom brass knobs like they use for the channel switching. I actually just did that to my mark V. I just think the metal knobs look and feel more substantial and not so cheap looking.

I am just looking for input on the colors and options. I just want something a bit different than the standard color.

My CABINET(s) are orangey-brown colored crocodile embossed leather with black and gold weave on front and dark brown piping, and it's gorgeous. I actually picked it up on ebay a number of years ago. I paid nearly full custom shop price for it, but what the hell, I had money at the time, and didn't have to wait long to get them.

They're only 1x12's. I had my reasons at the time, weight and elimination of all the off-axis phase cancellations, etc., but as I get interested in Celestion Blues....well, 20W isn't much power rating for a 1x12.

A cab needs to be at least a 2x12 to be a keeper, I prefer verticals. I love the look of Mesa Lonestar cabs, which is what I have, but I LOVE the 4x10's, but probably won't get one anytime soon.

In all honesty, if you got money to burn, get a plain head and maybe think about fancying up the cabinet. Or, if you gig like I do, all that pretty croc will start showing a little wear each year and in 20 year's itll be replaced with black tolex.

The best way to spend money is to buy a great guitar. Next, speaker cabs. At the very end of the list is that box of electronic wizardry that goes out of fashion with the next model year.

The Head should be punted as soon as you're bored with it. Makes it easier to ship to Australia too where you can extract the highest premium.

Has anyone else had any experience wiht the embossed leathers???

Curious to know how they look in person and hold up over time....? any up keep on them?

how bout the regular smooth leathers? any input on them?

Im with you on the V30 option, I have them in all of my cabs . I dont care for C90s personally . Ive got several Mesa amps and cabs and always order with the gold grille so I can mix and match the different peices .
