For my dc-5 combo on it's way here through fedex.

All i really would like is the channel switching and GEQ, which the stock switch has.

However, I hear that they plug into different plugs and it's very odd. If I could just get channel switching that would be fine. (i'd probably not use the geq as a solo boost, but use it always in the v-shape). I could use an OD or something as a nice solo boost.

Anyhow, will a regular 2 button footswitch get me channel switching? I could take the amp to a local pawn shop where they have some fender and vox 2 button switches. Worth a shot?

Yes, it's worth a shot. I use a mono cable (stock footswitch cable is stereo for the two buttons) with my BOSS GT-8. When it is plugged all the way in it switches the channels. I leave my EQ on for both channels so no need for an EQ on/off button. I don't even use my footswitch, but I'm gonna keep it just in case I wanna not take the GT-8 with me and plug straight in to the amp - or if I sell it. I think voodoo man makes nice footswitches, but a pawn shop would be cheaper. Even a one-button footswitch would work if you don't need to switch the EQ on/off.
