hi guys,

haven't really realized it for a longer time, but hearing more and more opinions from my friends I realized they are probably right. Dunno what it could be, whether tubes, power amp...Does anybody encountered something similar with your quads? Maybe also the settings needs to be reconfigured from the scratch...

I would say that the quads controls reflect the era they were designed to serve. The voicing favors 80's hard rock/metal but is by no means limited to that. I would agree that the bass control dial seems weak overall, but adding alot of bass early in that tone stack likely would not work to well. The key is to bring the bass back in with the five band eq till it starts to flub then back it off a tad till its solid.
Dont forget the treble is not only treble but a gain dial as well, high settings will push the gain even further. My treble on a high gain setting may be 8.5 mids at 6 and bass at 3 and a Vish on the five band or whatever you like but my bass does get dialed back in on the first two faders on the parametric eq. That high a treble may play havoc on your clean tone so you may have to dial it back if you need to balance things.
Honestly I like the strong mids the quad offers its a tone that just cuts. I play my quad/295 through my mesa 4x12 with V30's and to me it sounds huge, organic, earthy focused high gain like thick black soil and yet hifi at the same time.
Most of my Triaxis high gain settings that use dynamic voice typically have bass at 2 or less also.
The Triaxis has less mids and a more compressed and slighly more modernish vibe to me anyway.
As a comparison the other day I AB'd the quad with my dual rectifier rack mount on red channel, silicon diode and bold, on the same cab its a whole different vibe there's a bigger low end boom and a whole different tone stack where it can take alot of bass and it just sits in their real nice but the articulation and feel is just not as distinct.
Thats not a slant against the recto its got its own vibe that is more modern, its just a whole different type of sound that favors a different playing style, still huge, versatile and wonderful.
Oh and by the way turning the bass beyond 3 on the Quad dial wont yeild any discernible difference.
They likely just made it that way so you could not dial it in too wrong LOL because a boogie just dont dial like a normal amp : )

That got to do also with the Power amp you are using i use a 50/50 with the phat mod and there is low end and bass for days also got a lot to do with the speakers as last equation for the final sound..
