Almost every time I play those two notes in the middle register of the guitar (ie, near the 12th fret of the g string). I'll get a strange sort of light buzzing that sounds like it's coming from the cab..

I never play louder than 11 o' clock on amp so I can't imagine I blew something..

Any wisdom?

Probably a bad preamp tube. Try tapping them (use a chopstick or something that does not conduct) lightly and see if any start to ring.

WHen you say ring, should I leave the amp on and guitar plugged in? Or turn everything off and tap?

Thanks!

And I just tapped what seemed to be the steel casing around each preamp tube, but none of them sounded different than the others. That is with the amp on standby

The "tap test" requires the amp to be on, out of standby, with nothing plugged in but a speaker and the amp at normal volume. Remove the metal covers from the preamp tubes before starting the test.

Are you sure it is not just something loose like a badge or handle?

Is this a combo or head & cab?

Dom

It's probably something in the room vibrating. I had this happen with my Mark IV when I lived with my parents and had a ton of stuff in my bedroom.

happens in my room too

MY amp make those ambient frequency sounds too. They are normal. Listen closely to some recordings and you will hear them in there.Mine does it on c#...as long as it's not E A G or D

Could this be the guitar?
Some guitars have this kinds of problems... Bad frets... you find a lot of this on classical guitars

No, definitely not the guitar, it's a brand new Suhr.

if you can, try playing your amp outdoors or may be try it in a different room. good luck and that a nice modern you got!!

I'll try playing it somewhere else, also...

I don't get it in clean sounds, primarily in medium-high gain when I'm picking. Legato usually doesn't get it to kick.

what channel? what settings?

I get a weird buzzing that is quite audible on ch.2 esp in edge, and when treb / pres are higher. to me it sounds like the rattle of really loose snares on a snare drum (of course with the sound of the guitar coming through.)

either way, i've found this on my MkV head, with 2 different vert 2x12's, a 1x12, and about 5 different guitars. Then i played a different head with a different vert 2x12 and a combo in guitar center and found that i get the same noise from it.

i dont like it, but it seems to be inherent, maybe with wrong settings. i also swapped out each preamp tube individually, and tried 6l6 and el34.
