this is for the november johnpetrucci.com forum jam...

it's like a backingtrack that one dude gets from guitarbt.com and sends to everyone and everyone plays stuff on top of it. the backing track itself was midi and mixed awfully so it was hard to compensate, and i'm not exactly andy sneap.

but here it is, i posted just the rhytym for the first 1/4 of song a couple of weeks ago but here is the finished product!

oh, its a road king (s1) head + rk mesa 4x12 cab

if anyone wants more specs please ask i always write a lot i dont wanna write for no reason.

*please note that there are 2 tracks one is MIX 1 another is MIX 2. the only difference is that track 1 the backing track is lower in the mix and the bass and mids are scooped out via EQ on my DAW. MIX 2 is more muddy due to the fact that the backing track is muddy and theres a lot going on*

comments please.

Not a bad tone at all, did what you could with the backing track's mix.

However, I believe either your guitar or the mix were out of tune, which is distracting. Also, the "15 ms delayed stereo" effect generally doesn't ever sound as full as two separate L & R takes recorded separately (but as you menioned on your myspace page, you really have to nail the takes exactly to make this work).

Recommendations:
1. Tune to the mix
2. Re-do mix 1 with the tone you used, but recording distinct takes for the rhythm L & R. If there's space in the original mix for it, for a really big tone, you can *also* do the 15 ms delay trick on each, but pan the delayed track about 50% on the opposite side and lower in volume, so you'd have the following in a L to R spread:

Take 1 - 80% L, full volume
Take 2 delayed 15ms - 50% L, lower volume
Take 1 delayed 15ms - 50% R, lower volume
Take 2 - 80% R, full volume

Obviously, you'll need to tweak the panning and volume for the backng track, but this should give you a monstrously full recorded tone.

hmm somne good points. ill try your suggestions however the backing track is awful. its barely in stereo and its very muddy so its hard to work with it. considering i'm a novice especially.

but yea as far as tone i love the vintage voicing on the road king
