Hello Boogie Board members!

So I just got my first mesa, it is a mint condition second hand, but barely used, Dual Rec Roadster head. It is absolutely amazing and I have played it many times without any problems thus far. Basically I am here to say, hello! And to see if anyone had any tips for the roadster, any tone settings one might share with me. A tone that I am really trying for is an Opeth type heavy distortion tone. If any one has a general setting for that I would really appreciate it and would love to try it out. Other than that, I am really enjoying it thus far and love tweaking it to discover all the great sounds you can get out of it.

Just a thought to start with . If you do not have the manual you can download it at mesa , they give you 4 settings for each channel. Then you can tweek it up . Plus reading the manual helped me understand what ch. and what switch setting does .
Give it a shot .

That sure is a purdy Roadster cab you got there Grant 8)

You gotta let us know how the Sylvania works out... I've been getting some great Opeth-ian lead tones in Channel 3 Raw with the OCd in front. The trick i found was to turn the presence off and use the tone knob on the OCD as more or less a presence contol. Also turning down the volume and adding some gain added a little hair to the tone so its still smooth but with a bit of grit that is very much like the lead in the beginning of Hex Omega. I also soak the tone with gos of chamber reverb from the Axe-FX and a little harmonizer in the reverb trails....

hey jonathan

haha yep the cab is quite purdy, I am enjoying it. the sylvania still hasn't come but the siemens just came today. I am going to wait until all the tubes I bought off ebay come and then just start experimenting one night...should be fun. also waiting on that signa drive so when it comes I will definitely try out a similar approach as you describe...though it is funny you said that because I was getting some good tones out of channel 3 raw today as well, very opeth sounding actually. and I always tend to kind of ignore the raw voicing, but it's cool once I get into it. man this amp is like a labyrinth of tones, but a fun and less confusing labyrinth than that of say, the one in the movie Labyrinth, staring, yes...David Bowie... basically, it is awesome. i have never had this much fun with an amp before. it sounds better every day!
