I just read that Dave Mustaine recorded all of his new CD with a new Line 6 head and a Roctron Prophecy. I think Line 6 is coming out with a new amp. He was a die hard Marshall fan and said it mimics his 1967 Plexi. I just thought this was pretty interesting to those who have followed his tone over the years. We shall see.

BTW. HAPPY EASTER :D

Dave Mustaine will play anything, as long as he gets it for free. He and Zakk Wylde are the biggest gear endorsement whores in the business.

Wouldn't you? Money talks so get it while your hot. I love when people call bands "sell outs" I mean its a business when it comes down to it. I think we all would go for more cash if it was as easy as endorsing a product or two (or in Zakks case....6-15 products)

Honestly? No I wouldn't. I would use the best gear that gets me the sound I'm satisfied with. I'm not going to use a piece of crap just because I got it for free, or somebody paid me to take my picture with it. I have more shame than that!

I will say this about Wylde - he is consistent. You do see him using the same stuff year after year. He's lucky enough to get endorsements for the stuff he already uses. Mustaine, OTOH, switches alliances like most players switch underwear.

Fair enough. I agree, Zakk is consistent. I saw him play live recently and he had amazing tone....it was very clear/clean, you could hear every note. It was impressive, to say the least.

You should see some of the stuff htat they were selling recently through the Megadeth store on e-bay. They are selling stuff out of Fallbrook, CA which isn't far from me (about 10-15 minutes). I think they sold some used guitar strings that they recorded some tracks for their new CD with. I remember seeing them and thinking that they must be trying to squeeze every penny out of the fame and that things must be tough if they are resorting to selling such stuff. Before they had signed masters from songs and personal videos and personal clothing worn and pictured on tour. I can see the diehard fan buying that stuff but used guitar strings? I think that was pushing it just a little too far.

Zakk seems to endorse stuff he already plays. I don't see a big deal with that. If Gibson wanted to give me some free guitars and stick a picture of me with my guitar in a magazine I don't think I'd say no to them.

Though Zakk played his old pedals for years and created a signature sound he still jumped at the opportunity to have signature pedals made by MXR. Gear endorsement *****?

Um... yeah... ok he's a *****!

:D

I thought that micro stack ad was hilarious. His facial expression in the pic that they used wasn't all too enthusiastic. Marshall has been peddling those little amps forever. Now that they have Zakk onboard with his signature amp I guess they took advantage of him there too. In the end though, it was his own decision to pose and be used in the advertising.

EVH is sitting on top of that list. He has swapped guitar companies and amplifier companies the most with his signature stuff.

Well... EVH's loss of his EB/MM contract was not directly his decision. Rumor has it that Sterling Ball caught Ed with Mrs. Ball. Notified Valerie and that's when things went south for ol' VH.

Tool rocks. They've always had their focus on their art and music. Adam Jones is such a talented mofo. I knew he worked in film before his career with Tool took off but did you know he worked on Jurassic Park and Terminator 2? Just read that the other day..

I love the work he does on their videos!

Zakk is not a *****. He had been using those micro stacks since they came out. Marshall (who he already endorses) decided to make one with his name on it. As far as MXR goes, he already had a relationship with them as well. I'll tell you the truth what matters the most is weither the stuff sounds good. Everything I've played with Zakks name on it is good. John Petrucci even used Zakks OD pedal in his rig. I am not sure how Dave's ESP sounded but he's Jacksons were awsome and I have heard great stuff about Dean.

I admire Zakk, and like his sound. He can't sing worth a lick, but his guitar sound is great. As for the endorsements, I just think it's funny that Dave has gone from Jackson, to ESP, to Dean in the span of like 2 years. All of the guitars look the same, except for the headstocks....I don't really like the dean's inlays, the body is gorgeous, but the combination of dots and sharktooths and that fugly headstock don't make me want to buy it....

-AJH

On a tangent... I don't understand the "guitar god" status that has been bestowed(by guitar magazines) upon him. He's a better than marginal player... What am I missing? He's no RR, Gilbert, Jake E, or Becker...
