Anyone using Line 6 / Boss / TC Electronic MultiFX pedals with the Mark V?
I'm using a BOSS GT10 in the fx loop and I thought I had found a way to compensate for the loss in tone and harmonics and the attack by engaging the FX1 (Advanced Compressor: Boss CS3) in the fx loop - but it's not the best trick out there.
I'm looking to reuse my GT10 for fx as opposed to building out a custom patch cable mess with true bypass pedals.
The problem is simply this: Noting the fact that engaging the LOOP FX vs HARD BYPASS itself changes the sound by a little bit, the issue is a further loss in tone even though the BOSS GT10 has no FX on at all, but engaged in the fx loop (SEND/RECEIVE level both at NOON on the GT 10 and the SEND KNOB on the MARK V is also Set at NOON and MARK V Footswitch FX Switch ON). This is truly dissatisfying because when I want to use the GT10 for time based fx loops or just NOISE Cancellation - the attack on the amp goes spongy. When I switch off the FX Switch on the Mark V footswitch the attack and presence comes back and sounds great with some minimal hum.
One solution I had was to roll back the FX SEND LEVEL on the MARK V from the default 12 0 clock position to 10 o clock to make sure the attack/presence doesn't change when the MARK V FX Footwswitch is in ON OR OFF position ..... realized this takes away from the harmonic richness and the chords don't scream anymore - just sound like Dave Mustaine's sound from the 80's Harsh - brittle and mush! If I push the FX SEND know in the the opposite direction to 2 o clock the tone goes overtly fat (great for leadsy sounds) but loses all attack
Figured I'd describe my problem as much in detail as possible to see if anyone has dealt with this situation before and found a work-around (apart from throwing the GT10 out the 13th floor window)
I must add that ScreamingDaisy's tip of playing in 90W mode/Variac works to an extent..but not fully to the extent that it should (perhaps its just bad quality buffers in the GT10?)
Spare a thought...?
