Thought I would share this clip with everyone. I wasn't trying to nail Lynch's exact tone (I don't own a Marshall Plexi or Soldano). I did use my Maxon OD-9 for the lead tone and the intro riff only to give it more of a compressed 80s tone however.

*Disclaimer- by no means am I a great lead player. I'm not one for learning solos note for note so I a improvise in some areas (obviously not my strong point).

BTW, I took out my lead and created a backing track if anyone is interested in playing along.

Killer tones and playing man. I always love your clips. I am such a Mark IV tone fanboy. I have 40+ Mark IV clips saved on my computer, several of them being yours.

P.S. You sell yourself short as a player IMO.

I'm telling you, one of these days I will try an Axe-FX. I will still keep my Mark IV. Seriously, I don't see myself ever parting with this amp. I haven't GASsed for another amp in almost a year.

I just expect a lot from myself as a player. It isn't that I'm fishing for compliments/ It's just that my hands don't always do what I want them to do.I remember your Vetta video clips from the ION boards. You've got chops too!

Thanks man. That's kind of funny because I have used some of your clips as reference points for tweaking Mark IV tones on my Axe FX (it has a Mark IV amp sim). I actually have a clip I did a few days ago of one of my Mark IV patches that uses John Petrucci's exact live settings that are on his site. I don't want to post it here and hijack your thread, but I'll PM it to you to see what you think of the tone.

very great as always! I also think you sell yourself short on your playing. I really love the big smooth sound you get!

I'm still searching for a Mark IV to buy. :( I'll get one soon. Your clips feed the fire for sure!

I'm very curious about the Axe Fx's Mark IV models too.

I could post my clip in this thread, but only if gibson5413 doesn't mind. It's pretty Low-Fi, just audio extracted from a video shot with a digital camera, but it's fairly honest to how the Axe FX sounds in the room. My playing it's pretty horrible on it though, maybe I'll make a new one while I'm waiting to hear back from gibson5413. :)

SK,

Totally post it. I actually really liked your AxeFX clip. I have heard so many killer clips from the AxeFX (including yours). It would be the only digital solution I would consider. I don't say that being a "tube snob". I just love the feel of my Mark IV! I played the Vetta for 4 years and it kind of left me empty. It blows me away how Fractal Audio jumped light years ahead of Line 6 in such a short period of time.

I would love to hear you put your take over this backing track. You've got some great lead chops!

Thanks for the compliments! I love this amp!

Yeah, but did you think it sounded like a Mark IV?

I'm a little hesitant to post it because the playing is so bad. It's not that I'm down on myself as a guitarist, I think I'm actually a pretty decent lead/shred player when I'm on. I'm just not "on" (at all) in the clip. It was just a test and I did it in a hurry with no plans to let anyone hear it. The delay is also way too loud and takes away from the tone. I think the best part of the clip is when I play the little bit of "Metropolis" without the delay.

Anyway, I may try to do other one in a day or 2 with better playing and little or no delay, and post it here and give your thread a bump. :p

Ah screw it. I know I'll take forever to get around to making another clip (at least one I'm happy with), so here it is. I edited out the first part of the clip which was some very sloppy lead playing with too much delay (I had the wet cab in my W/D setup to close to the camera's mic.

I did this at low volume (so low you can hear the acoustic sound of my pick hitting the strings, even though I was in the next room), again, recorded with a digital camera's mic. It came out sounding a little bit brighter than it actually does, but not too much. My setup is:

-Fractal Audio Axe FX (using the Mark IV amp sim- "USA Lead 1")
-Carvin DCM600 ss power amp
-2 Avatar 4x12 Vintage cabs (both have Celestion V30's & G12H30's in an X pattern)

Any comments on how close (or not close) to the tone of a real Mark IV it is are welcome. Thanks:

**** it man you never stop amazing me with your tracks.....

You have the best recorded MarkIV tone on the web, I think this one just pushed you past Zorran in my presonal prefrence of MarkIV tone.

We are not Worthy!!

Ive tried your exact settings on my MarkIv and got a version of N-track also, thats what you use right? If you could what else is in your recording chain?

Or any info that might help mine would help.

Right now mine is :

Guitar > MarIV > 2 SM 57 mics > AudioBuddy Pre > N-Track

If so what pedals do you suggest or use in your chain? Im up for getting anything that gets me close to your recorded tone.

Again man, what A awesome job!

Not that anyone's paying attention  , but here's another Axe FX, Mark IV tone clip. This is my main tone. It's almost the same as my Petrucci patch, but a little bit beefier sounding. I recorded it the same way with a digital camera, except I had the Axe FX up a little bit louder (I'd still consider it low volume though).

The cool thing about this clip is that it's actually not me playing. :p This is a sound file of a totally unprocessed guitar signal being re-amped by the Axe FX. The sound file is being played on my Boss digital recorder, going into the Axe FX's rear inputs, then out my power amp and cab. There are a few re-amping threads going on right now on the TheGearPage and the Axe FX forums, and this is the sound file everyone is using. It's a kind of surreal experience to have someone's guitar playing coming out your rig when no one is there playing.

I can post the unprocessed file if anyone wants it. I would love to hear it re-amp through a real Mark IV (hint hint gibson5413). :p
