more gain on Mark III rhytm 2 channel

If I want to get more gain out of the rhythm 2 channel of my mark III without a volume increase, what pedals would you reccomend? I love the tone with the volume at like 8, but I want to back it off so I have some headroom to boost the volume for solos. So basically I want more gain without changing my tone, while still running the volume low enough so it gets louder for solos. Any suggestions for my confusing question?

I believe you can also have Mike B. up at Boogie modifiy the amp to include a gain control.

When I had mine modified, he offered either a gain control or a level control. I opted for the level control.
