Mono 4 ohm cab tone

I've been running a single 2x12, 16 ohm cab with my Mark V from the 8 ohm jack. This of course darkens the tone etc.. I'm considering rewiring the cab to 4 ohm and using the 4 ohm jack. Does a 4 ohm cab from the 4 ohm jack sound the same as an 8 ohm cab from the 8 ohm jack? I'd like to avoid getting new speakers, but I don't really want harsh tones either.

I think the speakers will influence the tone more than the ohmage. I really don't believe that "...16 ohm cab with my Mark V from the 8 ohm jack. This of course darkens the tone" is accurate. You will get more power (and most likely more loudness) to the speakers if wired to 4 ohms and using the 4 ohm output.
