So this MKIV I bought a few months ago came with no footswitch. I finally got a brand new one from Mesa. Everything works fine, I think, but I have a question about how this works and whether it's working correctly.

The lead channel - I press the lead button, I get the lead channel, no EQ. I then press the EQ button, and I get EQ added to the lead channel. Now, if I press the LD-EQ button, I get a whole different sound than I do with the lead button and the EQ button activated together. It's like there's twice as much EQ or something like that. Is this how it's supposed to be? Or do I have one of the switches on the back set wrong or something?

That doesn't sound right. There should only be one stage of eq engagement. The eq rocker switch on the back determines whether the eq is always in, footswitchable (EQ Out), or auto engage in R2. If it's engaging in the Lead channel when you hit the eq button, then it's set to the footswitch setting.

How are your loop switches set?

In case you don't have one, heres a link to the manual: http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Mark 4.pdf

Thanks, I've got the manual - it just barely mentions the footswitch unfortunately.

Yes, it's odd, although somewhat interesting - I've got 3 distinct useable lead channel sounds currently.

I've got the footswitch switches on the back - FX Loop Switching, and the other 2 in the middle.

I'm planning on taking the thing in to the local mesa tech anyway - as I received the amp it has at least one physical issue, and a work over of everything else is in order.
