I had to call Mesa about how this worked. Basically, if you want the loop on all the time, then choose the normal setting. The switching option will allow you to switch the loop on and off. The auto assigns allow you to choose a channel to have the loop automatically come on. For expample... I use my loop set were anytime I go to the clean channel the loop kicks in. I have a delay and chorus in the loop. So instead of having to hit the channel switch AND tap dance over my pedal board, it all comes on at once- because I just leave the pedals set to "on."
