Why is it that with all 3 channel's Master at the same setting, the Lead channel appears to have less volume? Is it the gain and compression in the Lead that does that?

The Channel Masters are designed to be mix controls to balance the three channels' volumes. Who said they're s'posed to be set the same? Why wouldn't they just set 'em the same at the factory and have done with it? They would save all that money putting all that extra circuitry in the amp.

My point was that R1 and R2 seem to have unity but the Lead is at a lower volume when the setting is the same. I know what the Masters are for. It's the discrepancy I'm referring to.

The volume of each channel depends on the gain as well as the channel master. There are lots of varying gain settings across the three channels. If you set the gains differently to what Randall Smith thought was 'about right', or to what some other user sets his to, or the guy in the shop, or me, then the channel masters on all our respective amps will need to be different, to even out our various gain settings to get them sounding the same volume. If, that is, we want them to be the same volume. (which we almost certainly don't)

Does that make sense?

It doesn't matter whether the masters are the same as each other- just twiddle them until it suits you.

There's no "discrepancy". They're not supposed to be the same.

.

each channel has a entirely different circuit for the most part..it's like having different amps..i dont care if the numbers don't line up, i can match each channel with each other perfectly, or set some higher for leads etc
