Hey Guys,
Just got my amp back from Mike Bendinelli at Mesa after having a cap job along with the "Effects Loop Mod".
The amp sounds completely different and I like it. (I can use the Lone Stars when I need to turn down)
I am interested if any of you also had this mod done and if you can give me any advice on getting the most out of it. I've been turning dials and flipping switchs all week and have found lots of good tone (all at high volume), and I understand that this is the nature of the beast, but from past experience I know that it's very likely that somebody else may have a good/better idea that may result in illuminating the "sweet spot". If so, please jump in....... thanks in advance.
see ya' Jim

O.K. Guys,
I think I've got a handle on the Effects Loop Mod, here's how it works.
The whole amp is wired in the loop, all the time. You use the Master controls (Master 1 & Lead Master) as you would the Effects Send control on other amps. There is another Volume control that has been added to the back panel that controls the
"Post Effects Level" and is so labeled. You would use these three controls to set up your effects loop.
The Post Effects Level controls the overall volume of the amp (looped or not) with the position 8 marked as the place where you'ld set it to achieve the volume level of the amp as it was before the mod.
The thing is you can use this control to REDUCE the overall volume of the amp once it's set up (Rhythm and Lead channels) for the best tone WITHOUT losing tone.
I think this Boogie sounds better the louder you play it, but it's just not always practical on todays scene. This control allows you to get REALLY High Gain Tone at lower, more useable volume levels.
I set my amp up with the Post Level Volume control set at "8" , then turn that control down to achieve the overall volume I desire.
for this little club I play on Tuesdays "5" or "6" will get the job done.
I have to make some tiny adjustments once it's turned down to get it just right, but it's all Boogie once it's done. It will sustain
right into feedback if that's what I want and the Clean channel will just ring out and out with little or no decay. It's amazing, and
as a result I will be using it alot more.
Oh Yeah, the two positions above "8" (that would be 9 & 10) on the Post Effects Volume control can be used to amp the Boogie up to volume/gain levels it was never meant to go. Is O.K. since I have an EVM 200 WATT speaker, the amp can't hurt it!
All in all, I'm really digging it. Another thanks go's out to Mike Bendinelli for selling me on it and performing the work. I couldn't be happier with the product or the service (1 week turn-a-round) :D
See 'Ya, Jim

I have a mkIIb and I am considering the effects loop mod.
How much were you charged for the mod?

Thanks

The mod itself cost $300 , I had Mike go thru the amp as well (performed a cap job, replaced 3 pots, the EQ reluctors and some resistors) for an additional $190 + shipping.

For me it ha all been money well spent-the amp sounds amazing.
Jim
