Midi cable issue

I have a Triple Rec and I have been having issues with the midi input and or pedal or cord. It keeps making a crackling sound and it defaults to the orange channel which is lame because I primarily use the red one live. Has anyone else had an issue with this?

I bought a new midi cord hoping it is just a short and will try it tonight but is there anyway to set the red channel as the default?

Any help would be great, thanks!
