Hi Everyone:

I asked this question elsewhere and received multiple answers. If I purchase 2 matched "duets" of Mesa's 6l6's, does it matter what socket they get placed in?? Some have told me "no", others have told me that one tube from the 1st duet should go in V1 and the other in V4 and the 2nd "duet should go in V2 and V3.......does it really matter and is there really a correct way??

Optimally all four tubes should be matched.Depending on what amp you are talking about and how you use it could make a difference. If the 2 pairs are graded the same then optimally you should put one pair in the outer and one pair in the inner and you will be okay.If the two pairs dont match and you position them like that then the 2 sides of your output tranny wont match and your sound could suffer.

If you have say, two yellow tubes and two blue tubes, the blue tubes would go on the outside sockets and the white would go on the inside sockets. Or you could do the opposite and put the white on the outside and the blue in the middle. If what you are saying is that the tubes are from the same color batch located on the bottom of the tube, like four blue tubes or four green tubes, it wouldn't matter what tube goes where according to Mesa.

Fish has it right. If all are the same color, it doesn,t matter. If you have two pair of duets (like your post states), make sure one matched duet is on the outside, the other on the inside.
