I just bought my new mesa and couldnt be more pleased with it :D
This is my first tube amp and the EQ's a little tricky
I'm having trouble finding a texas blues tone like SRV
Can anyone help me?
Also my volume seems to fluctuate when I'm playing anyone else have this problem?

try replacing the phase inverter tube V5 to a 12at7, this will lower the gain and maybe give you that SRV tone.

I had no problem dialing in a decent SRV tone on mine. I can't remember the exact settings, but I was in channel 1 pushed, gain about half way, and the amp's output cranked, use the master to control volume. EQ settings are really up to you, don't make the typical V shape though, try punching the mid control a bit.

Also use your guitar's volume pot to control gain. If you are using a s/s/s strat, use the neck and middle pickups.

Use a tubescreamer for leads. You can also fool around with an EQ before your amp.

He had a real percussive sound, not high gain. That's what you are after. Also, stick to 6l6 tubes. The el34's change the voicing too much I find.

^^^^this

or get a slightly dirty clean and boost the hell out of it with an 808 type OD
