I recently hooked up with an older Mesa half back 4x12 cabinet that I am running my Mark IV through. It's pretty sweet! It has all Black Shadow speakers in it now (Celestion, I think). I know these cabs used to also come with the Electro-Voice EV12Ls in the bottom half. My question is, how would the cabinet sound if I were to use the EV speakers in the bottom half of the cab as opposed to the Black Shadows? Would the toner be better? Bassier, Louder, clearer? If anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Like Nike says... just do it. The EVM is a great speaker. I find that it is much clearer than Celestions and a good combination with other speakers such as Celestions. The bottom is clear and clean. The sound is reproduced truely. You may find that you need to reset your amp's tone settings after plugging in an EVM-12L or two. Those older Mark style cabinets came loaded 4 EV's or 4 Celestions or a mix thereof. The bottom loaded EV's will sound great. You will have a much fuller dynamic sound. I would say experiment for a day. You might like the sound of an open back EVM. You might end up liking all EVMs. Who knows...
