I have two dsl's. one is a dsl100, completely stock, original tubes and never gigged..like-new, no nicks or dings..$800 shipped and insured. may be a tiny added charge for shipping if you are on the west coast, since i am in Maine..

My other dsl is a 50..This one has two tiny dings on the tolex the size of a pen tip...barely noticable even up close..It has been upgraded with a mercury magnetics output transformer...again, tubes are like new and it has never been gigged. from 1 foot away it looks mint/brand new..$800.

I really baby my gear
If you buy them both....1500.00

Was the new tranny a big improvement? I have a DSL 50 and was thinking of doing the same thing at some point.
Thanks!

Yes, big improvement. If you haven't done so, read up on MM's web-site. I added one in January and it was the best up grade to any amp I've owned. It really improves the overall tone of the DSL 50, and backs up the claims made on the web-site. That and a doug tubes recommendation, have made this amp a keeper.

Installation is relatively easy as well. No need for a tech to do it.

PM me if you have any other questions.

playdosboogies...I've mentioned it to my little brother. Very good price BTW.

are these heads still available?

I noticed you commented on the transformer difference, but tone-wise what is different other than the fact it's better?

thanks.

If you read up on the Mercury Magnetics web-site it mentions that the transformer is the main interface for the power section and that some amp companies use sub par transformers. Definately the case with Marshall. The Mercury Magnetics transformers are hand made in the US from quality materials. There claim is improved tonality and more usable gain.

I have found these claims to be true. When I first did the upgrade there was an immediate improvement to the tone. The weeks I'd spent tweaking the amp prior to the install were undone buy the upgrade as it improved the tone of the amp. I thought the amp was pretty usable in all modes and both channels prior to the install and it did nothing but improve those options after. Another week of eq'ing after the install and I can get just about any tones out of the amp I want.

The DSL 50 is a great platform. It is fairly well respected in the Marshall community. No the build quality is not that of Mesa, but for the price (especiallyon the second hand market) IMO they are the best bang for the buck. Would I recommend adding a MM OT to a Mesa, probably not. But for the DSL 50, it's money well spent. A lot of users on the MArshall Amp Forum have done it and they all spak well of the upgrade.

FWI - It takes about 50 hours of playing time for the OT to truly settle in. It was interesting to hear the amp contually improve itself. It required further tweaking on my part but everytime I play it, low volume or cranked, I find new tones.
