I wish that Mesa made a 4th channel, the Tweed on it's own. I love the tweed mode with the gain turned way up, master up on the channel, in a lower wattage. On the other side, I also like the Clean (fat) mode higher wattage and would switch between these too quite often on stage.

Does anyone have any idea how one might achieve this, besides buying two Mark V's? Or is that the logic Mesa was trying to do here! :)

Good point.....I would like that as well because I also love both Fat Clean and Tweed modes offered in Ch1. While I don't switch between these modes in the middle of a song (for obvious reasons), I do toggle between these two modes dependent on my clean needs for a particular song. I find fairly easy to do and just takes me a few seconds now that I have been doing it a while.

Normally, I opt for Tweed mode and use my guitar volume knob to clean up the "Tweed Mode" during songs with reasonably good results......however, it isn't as nice of a true clean sound as what is available in the Fat Clean Mode.

You can use edge mode on channel two for an alternate clean. I use it this way sometimes. Here is a vid from Haggerty's on how to set ch2 up for this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MdjyCVIHoI&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Yup I do that. I use the Fat Clean on first channel purely for cleans only and set the Edge on Ch2 cleanish/about to break-up to use pedals on it. My pedals sounds much better through there.

thanks for the advice and suggestion. I did watch all of their vids and I really do like those demos, and all of their demos for that matter. I will keep trying to get that 'tweed' grit out of channel 2, however, upon my trying in different wattage and experimenting, channel 2 in Edge lacks that chime and twang like you can find on the video above. In that video, starting around 3:12 and again at 4:12 with the gain turned up/master vol up, lower wattage is exactly what I mean. I like that tone, but then would also need a fat clean which currently resides on the same channel on the Mark V. thanks again for the suggestion.

Basic same request and NO I cannot use the Edge mode as I use Mark I so much

But I guess it is as good as it gets

I usually switch between Fat and Tweed in between songs too. I just mark the front panel master with the two spots I need so I can quickly set the amp up.

One added note that I didn't mention......I typically have my Ch1 gain setting for Tweed mode between 12 - 1 o'clock. Setting Ch1 Tweed mode in this way offers a very nice semi distorted clean that also allows me to "really clean it up fairly nicely" with my guitar volume knob.

One added benefit with setting the gain at intermediate settings for "Tweed" is that the gain is usually nicely set for a great clean sound when toggling to the "Fat Clean" mode. Usually all that I really have to do is slightly adjust the channel volume between these two modes when set as such.

No doubt, I also love the sound of Tweed mode with the gain high, but I find setting the gain high in Ch1 for "Tweed Mode" doesn't clean up as well with my guitar volume knob. Besides that, I usually look to Ch2 crunch for higher gain rhythm, and even some very nice lead tones.

I encourage people to try setting Ch1 to "Tweed Mode" with the gain set moderately and using your guitar volume to clean it up some and see how it works for you. My .02

I am going to try this today or tomorrow, maybe put my bb preamp to push the tweed just a little to get that twangy tweed grit using your suggestion. thank you.

Dr.StrangeNote.....I am interested in hearing your opinon with my suggestion....either way.

I recently fell in love with the tweed mode. Not only does it sound amazing, but it makes me play completely different; way more aggressive. I also jacked the reverb way up with it and play primarily on the rhythm pickup (Les Paul Traditional). It's so bluesy.

If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.

I'm going to play with some of the settings noted above to see what comes out.

This amp sounds so different every time I tweak a knob. It's amazing.
