Hi all.

This is my first post to the board and I am new to forums so please forgive me if this is not in the right section.

I have read threads on this forum before and found it to be extremely helpful so thank you in advance to anybody who takes the time to help me out.

I have just bought a Mark V head and I am extremely happy with it - I find it to be simply the best amplifier I have ever used and am delighted with the quality and tone.

I have just have a brief read of the manuel for this head and the first step in the getting started guide states that I should remove some plastic webbing from the tubes.

I should probably mention that I have no past experience of going inside an amp and doing anything regarding its tubes.

I played the amp for a good few hours before reading this part of the manuel and have had no problems at all - Does this mean all is well? Is there anything I need to do?

I am based in the UK and the tubes are securely covered by a protective grill if that helps.

Again, thanks to anybody who takes the time to read this and any advice will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks!

Take a look at the tubes... if they have plastic on them remove the cage that guards them and remove the plastic off them.

This step may have been done already by the shop that sold it to you, so if there's nothing on them then don't worry about it.

Thanks very much for the quick reply. That's very helpful. :D

Had a look into the back and see no plastic webbing, just the "Mesa Boogie" logo on the tubes.

I was also wondering about the fan - I assume leaving it on most of the time is the best idea? I dont find it to be overly noisy although I imagine its fine to stick it off for a recording session?

Chazz...

First off Congrats on buying a terrific amp and welcome to the forum! :D
Secondly, just as screamingdaisy has said.....since you don't see any plastic webbing on the tubes themselves.....you are absolutely good to go.

Secondly, I have been a Mesa Boogie owner for many years (not just MkV) and fully appreciate the amps they build. I have been a MkV owner since its initial release over 3 years ago and have been extremely please with it for all purposes (home, rehearsals, gigging and recording). Definitely do spend time reading through the manual (well written), but also experiment with all of its offerings to gain a better understanding and appreciation of what all the MkV can do and how it can be set to best suit your needs.

Lastly, I highly respect screamingdaisy's replies to the MkV and all Mesa Boogie amps for that matter. He is very knowledgeable about nearly all MB amps IMO and I tend to agree with most of his responses! Also, there are many other very knowledgeable members on this site that will be helpful to answer any further questions you may have regarding your new MkV!

Once again, congrats.....and welcome to this excellent forum!

If the fan is disrupting a recording session, you're not playing nearly loud enough!

Keep the fan on and keep your amp cool.

Welcome to the forum! You will find this amp gets HOT!!!!!!!! You will definitely want the fan on and let it cool down before you cover it. I have been playing Mesa's exclusively since 1990 and this one rips so you made a good choice to start..
