Allright, this is the second time since june this amp has a problem.

The first bug happened like a month ago, like 3 preamp tubes died in it.

Now today during band rehersal, the sound cut off all of the sudden, having only a very, very thin sound. Then like 10 seconds after, while trying to figure out what the hell is happenning, the sound entirely cuts off to be replaced by the loudest hum I ever heard.

Now what could that be?

I'm guessing a power tube failure with a blown fuse... but I can't tell yet.

The tech who swapped my faulty preamp tubes a month ago also changed all of my power tubes, saying there were used to the bone... after playing 2 months with them. He swapped the stock STR-440 6l6 in them for str 425, saying they'll last longer. Now the amp is at my jam room at the moment so I can't try out anything. I can tell you it's NOT the cables, I plugged an other amp with the very same cables to the same cab with any issue.

Any quick thoughts ?

Thanks a bunch,

not sure what it is.. but good job voiding your warranty by swapping the tubes.. you should have an interesting time getting this fixed

If you swap them out for Mesa valves, or some of those rated Groove Tubes valves that Mesa approves, the warranty is still valid...

To the thread starter, I suggest you send it back, and get it checked out. Who knows? You might get a replacement...

The tubes the tech put in are Mesa STR-425 tubes, so my warranty is still valid. I'll try to get a diagnostic from the tech today or tomorrow.

My head is an early one, one of the first issued in canada. Don't know if the early ones are known for having problems, but I'll keep you guys updated with the details.

Thanks for the help !

Sorry to hear you seem to have a "lemon"....My Stiletto was too, at first. Mesa was good about it and they told me that if they did not find the problem (which they did, thank goodness) that they would definitely replace the amp.

Hang in there; I know it's not easy, but you WILL get a working amp out of all this. 8)
Good luck! :D
