Hey guys,

I love the way my Mark V sounds. I love the way it records, etc... I have the combo.

Occassionally I choose not to lug it to the rehersal and I use the JCM 900 half stack with the 1960 Lead 4x12 cab. I push the clean channel with a tube screamer and it sounds really awesome with my GLP Traditional.

I dont seem to get that same "feel" from my Mark V combo. Is that because of the 4x12 cabinet or is it just the legendary Gibson through a Marshall? Unfortunately a 4x12 would blew the walls off my house, which is why I went combo.

Next time take your combo. Unplug the speaker in your combo, and plug in the cab. You might have to do some knob tweaking though.

I think a lot has to do with the cabinet. 4 x 12's just have a push to them. They kick you in the gut. Especially if the big cab is on the floor. If your combo is on casters I would suggest removing them during practice. Having your combo coupled to the floor will give you the feel your talking about. I will echo what another said and bring your combo and plug it into the marshall. I must tell you though. In the end the mark V is no marshall and the marshall aint no mesa. I think its perfectly reasonable to admit that if the marshall sound is what your craving then its probably best to get one for those times.

Thanks guys,

I think it's just the "bigness" of the 4x12 I crave. I don't think the tone is any better. In fact, I prefer the Gain settings on the Mark V. I'm going to try running the combo into the 4x12 next time.

And yes, I'm on casters. Who the hell can carry that beast around? lol.

Well lets see. a 1x12 speaker cab vs 4x12. I wonder which one with sound bigger and pushed with more rumble? You got 4 more speakers movin massive air with their magnets heating up and 4 times more cone breakup going on vs the 1 mesa speaker. And try a V30 in the Mesa if you have a black shadow. not being smart but of course the 4x12 will be bigger but plug that combo into the 4x12. Im sure you can get that Mesa to sound damn close to the Marshall on Channel 2 crunch dude!
