Ok, so I have used a G-Major for about a year with my Recto head (modded to series) and never was really thrilled about the results. But now that I have a Mark V head it sounds so pure, so lush and fat the effects. But Im still experimenting with the levels between the Mark V and G-Major.

Having a little trouble matching up the levels evenly and need any advice about settings from people that have a Mark V and G-Major.

Ya, the G's many levels can be a real bear. You may have heard about it - but if not, there's this "Whitepaper" out there that describes the levels in minute detail: http://www.guitaraffair.com/g-system-support.php

Here's my simpler, quickie approach:
1) work with a volume pedal - and step on it to basically mute things while you set some key levels (like every time I switch guitars)
2) Hit edit and tweak the input level with the left most knob while bashing away on the strings, till you only get a red blip on the hardest strums.
3) To set each channel's output level, I also bash away in the strings (Drop D helps make it sound less annoying, letting the red LED tell me when it's clipping on the G's effects return. This can also be done with the G's output muted.
4) I have my G's loop level set at 10db, with a max boost of 4 (I think) and a loop headroom of 2 I IIRC. To find the loop level, I just AB the loop's level by stomping repeatedly on the V's effect switch, and try to find unity gain. As for the loop headroom, I'd have to read the whitepaper again.
Also, note that "boost max" is actually a master cut, reducing the volume enough to provide the "boost" when you need it.

Hope this helps!

That link is for the G System. I have a G Major and am looking to get this thing setup a little better with my Mark V. The levels arent quite set right so far. Was just wondering if anybody else was working with a G Major and Mark V and their thoughts?

My input and output levels are both set right before 9:00, but it all depends how you have your G major hooked up, my is hooked to the FX loop, some people like running in front of the amp.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that every preset patch has different volume levels, so first thing I would do is find the patches you like or create your own and try to set them all at one volume level (read the manual to change the volume level within the preset patch).

Once you have adjusted the volume levels within the preset patches, if you have the Gmajor hooked to the FX loop, you just need to match the volume when the FX loop is on and when it's not, the volume should be the same on or off.

Hope this helps.

Yea. Thats what Iv had going on for a bit now. Got all levels matched with the Gmajor and MKV. Got alll preset levels match in the MKV with no clipping. The Gmajor sounds so good with the MKV. I wish I could step up and get an AXE Effects though, but them things are more than the Mark V themselves. Im pretty content with the Gmajor's effects right now.
