ok, so I had taken the IV to a local shop, they sent it to a local tech who repaired my broken gain knob as well as checked my Lead Channel EQ, cleaned up some pots, pretty much gave it a once over.

I discovered that my lead channel eq does indeed work, but Im not sure if it works correctly.

If I have the Bass on 0, there seems to be more bass than when it is at 10, and as I increase the Bass, the gain increases. the overall tone doesnt seem to get bass, only gain. and also, as I increase the Bass, the Treb and Mid knobs seem to have barely any effect at all. is this normal?!?

not at all... I was worried when I saw your original thread and now I'm definitely concerned.

you guys are serious, right? before, the only knob that had a "function" was the bass, now that I got the pots cleaned they all work but it just seems odd to me.

What you're describing almost sounds like the bass knob is doing what the treble should do!

The treble control will give you more gain as you increase it and obviously reduce the bass. When turned up, the treble control dominates the eq, with the bass and mid controls adding body and fatness more than anything. As you reduce the treble, the other controls have more of an effect.

If lead gain 8 pulled, drive 6, presence 5 pulled, treble 8, bass 3, mid 5 doesn't sound like heavy metal, something is definitely wrong.

If you turn the bass up much over 3-4, it should sound flubby and have far too much bass if it is working properly.

it sounds good. i play metal mainly...settings are something like this:

Gain: 8
Drive: 8
Treble: 5-7
Mids: 5-7
Bass: 5

sounds good to me, but still the problem remains......the Treble and Mid controls do basically nothing when the Bass is up past 2. when Bass is 0-2, Treble and Mid controls are easily present, anything past 2 on Bass and Treble and Mid seem to do nothing. I can definitely get the amp to sound awesome, and I love it, but I really want to resolve this issue and have it like "new". I guess I should just ship it to Mesa.

sounds like it needs to see a certified doctor :(

Unfortunately, I agree. The good news is that it'll actually really be like new this time.

thanks guys. I know i should have just shipped it to Mesa in the first place, but I figured I'd save some cash and time this way.....at least they cleaned it up a bit.
