I know there are descriptions of the sounds the different mark IIIs get around here (or maybe more the 'flavor' each stripe has)...but I've also heard from certain people here and TGP that the stripes actually don't all sound that different at all..are there any major changes made in each electronically in the stripes? what do the people here who own like 3 mark IIIs think?

Everyone here will tell you the same thing - there are more similarities than differences. I've played a blue stripe for twenty years of regular weekly gigs and I can tell the difference between it and the green stripe I acquired recently, but just barely. I'm sure I couldn't tell if I'd never played a Mark III before and just walked in off the street. Changing speakers and cabs can make a big difference, and to a bit lesser extent experimenting with different tubes changes the sound, too.

As with the Mark 2 before it much of the tweaking of the Mark 3 was to get a well balanced channel switching amp because of the shared eq stack. The earlier amps often need the channel 2 mod to balance out the volumes...i find the main difference is that the later blue and green stripes play and feel better as a proper 3 channel switching amps.

the only difference you will notice between stripes which have the same features is that R2 gets thinner, gainier, and more Marshall-y as the amps get newer. I owned a purple and a green at the same time and played a blue a lot, and I am pretty confident saying that even if I did blind A/Bs of my own amps R1 and lead channels I couldn't really tell the difference.

I thought someone would have steered you to the website below by now. This is pretty much where all this "Which stripe is better?" business started.
Realize that just because it's on the Interweb, don't mean it's true.

I just got a Red stripe head in this weekend. Loaded. Thing sounds FANTASTIC!!!
I heard a Blue stripe last year and thats what turned me on to the Mark III amps and this one to me sounds about the same as that Blue stripe. Kick ass that is!
