I'm going to build a head shell to convert my mark III combo, but I can't identify the screws which secure the chassis to the cabinet. The ones in the combo are all but rounded off by previous tinkerers, besides which they won't be long enough without the recessed suspension cups.

Does anyone here who has worked on them know what kind of screws I need?

They measure 4.05mm on my vernier, which doesn't correspond to any standard imperial size; closest approximation is 5/32", which works out at 3.97mm (god I wish the whole world just used metric!).

I've even considered retapping the chassis holes out to M5, but then the suspension cups on the cabinet would be too small, and I can't drill them out because the collars are set in rubber... As you can tell I'm pulling my hair out at this point.

Please please please someone tell me the spec so I can order a bag of them and never have to think about it again!

Thanks

The chassis screws are 8/32 and are approx 1 1/4 long typically.

8-32 x 1-1/4"
Yep that's them. Phillips - Oval Head too when used in a head (or later combos) with the countersunk washers.
If a long head (in case you have a widebody combo) they are 10-24's

Jona where are you located?

But surely 8/32" = 1/4" = 6.35mm?

Or does 8/32 mean something else here that I don't understand?

The screws I have are 18mm long (3/4"), although without the sunken cups I would imagine 1 1/4" to be about right.

I am in the UK which is why I am more comfortable with metric.

Thanks for the help!

Aha, just found this:

8-32, dia= .164"=4.17mm, sounds about right with wear and tear!

Now to find a UK supplier...
