I have the option of picking up one or the other and I am curious what some of your opinions are as this will be my first Mesa amp. The Mark III is either blue or green stripe (had a hard time confirming) and I am not sure about the date of the BA.

I know a lot depends on the style of music I want but just overall (versatility, reliability, rock-ability), what is your opinion?

Thanks,
amplified... :)

Decisions may be strictly biased based on ownership. 8)

I've owned 'em both. Great amps both of 'em. What do ya' wanna do? they are two different animals. The Blues Angel is a great amp but ya' need some pedals to get you where you need to go, its more of a platform amp. The Mk III was more of a "Get Your lead Tone here" amp. If you can state where you want to go, I can tell you more from what I know.

If you want beautiful cleans with great mild overdrive and incredible reverb......Blue Angel
-Bypass the "Mojo Module" and it will be very quiet as well. Don't need a loop in a clean amp anyway!

If you want decent cleans, good crunch, and kick the door in lead tones.......Mark III
-Add R2 Master Volume and you have 3 really good channels (4 if you have R2 & Lead selected at the same time!)
-Cleans can be modded to be nicer, but it affects all channels
-Reverb is ok, but not stellar

I've had 2 Blue Angels. I loved them both, but did not like to use OD pedals at the time, so I sold them for more aggressive amps with channel switching.
The BA cleans have been haunting me ever since.
If you use pedals to get your dirty tones anyway, I would definitely go the BA!

Hmmm.

Isn't that a like trying to choose between an ES-335 and a Jackson Randy Rhodes? Those two are about as different as you can get. Not that that is a bad thing. Just a big preference factor involved.

You can always take the approach I did. Buy them both (Mark IV and Maverick in my case) and pick up a A-B switch.

I honestly use the Maverick 10x more often than the Mark IV. But, I like them both for different reasons.
