I've had my 1982 Mk IIB for about a year now. I bought it with a JBL K120....sounded great Clean, but very raspy on Lead side - that speaker didn't like overdrive, regardless of the EQ settings.

I replaced the JBL with an Eminence Delta Pro 12A....sounded fantastic on both clean and lead - very smooth even on high gain settings with highs turned up. This is the perfect speaker for this amp, IMO.

For fun, I recently bought a 200 watt Mesa Black Shadow labeled EVM12L, and installed it this weekend. I am very disappointed....cleans are great, but the raspy harshness is back in the lead channel. to me, this amp is unuseable with the EVM. It's going up on CL, and the Eminence is going back in the amp.

Felt the same so I changed it with an old C-90 I had and put the EV in my compact cab. Used the mini stack at a fairground gig and was more than good/loud enough with both speakers.

The EVM's don't hold back frequencies like most speakers, so you have to keep the presence very, very low. I keep mine 0 most of the time, sometimes up to 2 if I lower the 6600 slider.
