I've read a lot about the nice "subtle breakup" that some IIB users get out of the clean channel. I have a 60 watt version with an EVM (possibly the culprit?) that stays very clean at high levels. It sounds great, but some breakup would be nice too. I dime the preamp, and then inch the master up, with the gain boost pulled, as loud as I can tolerate. Still no dice. It just gets fatter.

Any suggestions?

The choice of tube in the V1 slot has a lot to do with it.

that, and the guitar, etc...

you can try a 12ax7 that has more breakup to it, so it distorts a lot earlier.

that's probably all it will take.

this will effect your overdrive characteristic in the lead channel tho.

but it's an easy way to experiment with dialing other tones in.
