Hi,
Hoping I can get some opinions / thoughts / suggestions
on possibly getting a good , classic rock Mark I lead tone out
of channel 3 for live playing. I play in a 60's thru 80's cover band
and use channel 1 Fat and channel 2 Crunch and go back and forth
with all three modes on channel 3 but I'm never quite satisfied on that channel.
I've come to realize I'm searching for Mark I mode on that channel but can't seem to
quite nail it. I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,
Tony

This probably won't be particularly helpful, but you could instead try to find a comparable Crunch tone on channel 3 and use the Mark 1 mode in channel 2. I've had good luck using the Mark 2 mode for my rhythm crunchy tones. Either way, I'd probably look to the Mark IV mode since is has a strong bass response.

I have been able to emulate the Mark I mode of the V on the JP-2C on both channels. What I did was treble and bass at noon, mid range dialed out, use the 5BEQ in a V shape pattern then drop the 240Hz slider all the way down and adjust the 750 to taste and then adjust presence control to adjust the edge of the sound. Use the Mark IV voice or try the Extreme. I have not tried this on the V yet but may do so as I am interested how it would sound. It would be difficult to get it exact as CH2 on the Mark V runs 2 preamp gain stages and the gain control is before the tone stack and not following like it is for CH3.

If it can be dialed in on the JP it should be possible on the Mark V but you may need the V4 = 12AT7 to get there as the 12AX7 really pushes the upper mids and treble more where the 12AT7 compensates. Jan/Phillips NOS 12AT7 has a warm quality to it that adds more midrange content and bottom end. The Mesa 12AT7 is very bright and does help in managing the high frequency content or bring out the lower mids. I have tried both. However mine is a 2012 model and may be different than the more recent models. I have compared a new 2016 Mark V and it does not have that ice in CH3 as mine has in abundance.
