Hi, I know this question has been asked time and again, but please indulge me. I'm a new-b and appreciate the depth of information on this board immensely...So, here goes...without any warning or other signs of trouble, my 1978 mark I is popping fuses all of a sudden. I did nothing to the amp, except turn it up to about 6 (for the first time, as this is one loud amp for a little house), have since replaced several fuses, tried different electrical outlets, tried not doing the a/b thing with my mark IV - thinking my crap morely a/b pedal shorted it or something - but nothing seems to fix it. Basically, it will play fine at low volume, but if you turn it up it will go pop - fizz and lights out. Time for new tubes, as many other posts say? Other ideas on what's making my geriatric old amp cranky? Thanks in advance..

Time for new power tubes, or if you can find the bad one... Having the amp work fine at low levels, and then blow when you're playing loud is harder to diagnose.

But, I blew a HT fuse today when I was swapping in some different tubes. The amp hummed bad, and then it made a pop! The fuse was toast. A tube must have been shorting out.

I put in a new fuse, and pulled 1 tube at a time 'till I found the bad one by continuing to flip on the standby real quick while checking for hum. Now the rig is back up!

It pays to keep the proper fuses around.
