Hello Mark I users out there,

I was wondering if the original Mark I's were point to point wired, or did use PCB's even then?

Thanks in advance,
LG

I'm really just curious. The Mark IV I have is sort of a nightmare inside, I've had to replace pots myself (they're flown like you mentioned on Mark I). I'm just wondering how they did things in the past.

Thanks for all of your responses. I notice from your tag that you have a number of cool amps! I love those ceriatone amps, I've gigged a lot with an overtone 100 watt and an expression.

Ahh I've got no decent photos of the guts and no screwdrivers to get the chassis out where the amp is at the moment man - only a messy fuzzy picture. You can see the FX loop mod very clearly but that's about it!

Thanks for putting this up, it answers a few questions. It is interesting that they put the tube sockets on the PCB even then...

Yeah, the PCB/flying lead design is all about manufacturing consistency and reliability as far as I know, Randy is a good businessman and I guess he saw too many point-to-point failures running his repair shop.

I'm not sure about reliability being a reason to put tube sockets on a PCB, but I suppose manufacturing consistency/ease would be a reason. I don't think point to point circuits are more difficult to repair than PCB circuits, or more error prone, but that's just my opinion/experience, and I'm no expert. Boogie amps are chock full of stuff, so it's easy to see why they make them the way the do. I was just curious about the 'old days'. It is true that I prefer the sound/feel of the simpler point to point circuit amps, but I love all of the Mark series Boogies I've owned or played as well.

Thanks again for the replies.
