Ive been playing guitar for over 20 years. Im not NEARLY as good as i should be for how long ive been playing. I recently learned first hand that less distortion will actually give you a heavier sound. See Ive been searching for that ultimate tight chugging chunk. Ive always thought that more distortion and more highs were the way to get that. WRONG! more mids less gain I guess equal more chunk. Why did it take me so long to figure out that with more gain you get more fluid like tone and with less gain you get more crunchy chunky rhythms? Im just really happy to have a Mark V as this amp has taught me a lot about guitar tone.

So true..
It just gives more definition and focus.

Heavy isn't always about how much gain/crunch is applied.

I was amazed when I learned to roll back the gain and turn up the mids. Gives the amp more growl and you'll actually be present in the mix when playing with a band.

yeah its really crazy. I notice that my mark V actually will produce more gain with the eq set a certain way and when I dial it in stupidly is when I have to crank the gain to compensate. This amp is as good of a teaching tool as it is an amp.
