I heard some of Yngwies latest stuff ( I havent heard a note from YJM for at least 5 years and it was a friend who brought the CD round for a listen to cause I would have spent another 5 years without hearing him).

Holy Heavens above that mans lead tone really is the Feckin Fury Unleashed.

I know he is a very very controversial man indeed and to say he is not everyones cup of tea is an understatement in the extreme but feck me he has an unbelievable tone and (one no matter what you think of the man) is totally his own.

I can get a very close approximation of that tone thru my DC-5 so thats the Mesa connection here.

Anybody gotten real close to his tone thru their Mesa? For what its worth my favourite YJM lead tone is the one he had on Marching Out,I own a late 60's Marshall 50w but I would like that tone out of my Mesa.

I realise that its probably difficult because so much of his tone is in his hands because no matter what he has basically a perfect technique and his tone isnt for beginners because it shows up any sloppiness but my chops are in good shape so Im all for it..

Axe wise I have the perfect instrument to Unleash the Fury-a late 70s Strat with HS3's in it so im getting close.

Any tips would be appreciated.

PS NO MALMSTEEN HATERS WELCOME ON THIS THREAD.This is just something I would like some tips on.I know he doesnt play Mesa but I like to think my amp can handle anything and I am very very close to his tone so dont start any slagging here, start your own thread.

Hi ,
Last week I bought YJM Strat , after spending half hour playing it in the store (I couldn't leave it away  )
My axe number one is Jem 7vwh .
Regarding YJM tone - just tweak between 1:00 - 3:00 pm all the buttons on my Mesa DR Road King II , plus touch of Boss compressor and distorsion pedal -and that's it -pure YJM tone .
When plug my Jem in , with the same amp set up - I've got the most awfull trash tone one can imagine  .
For Jem ,everything must go bellow 11:00 pm , now I see what means : " Jem has very HOT pick ups !" , espec ially in combination with Mesa .

Moral : , now I see it very clearly - If I play only Yngwie Strat through Mesa ,I'll never replace original Mesa tubes . For Jem's pickups ,it was a must !

The best results are on chanell 2 ,using one 6l6 and one EL 34 tube (JJ's ) and on channel 1 , using all tubes ,what is very interesting ......(channels 3 and 4 should be for saturated tone , but "clean " channels 1 and 2 with distorsion are some how closer to YJM tone....
What I want to say is that Mesa sound with JJ's high gain tubes in is ideal for YJM tone ,thanks to extremely low output pickups . Level of distorsion and saturation can simply be controlled by guitar volume .

More interesting , with some reverb and chorus and playing with distorsion level ,you can have a very ,very nice Hendrix tone !
All in all ,extremely intersting guitar in combination with Mesa !
Hope it helps .
