LTD truckster

I recently purchased a LTD truckster (hetfield model), and I am having a rough time with my rectoverb and the EMG's. They do not like to play nice together. My amp sounds harsh and sterile and I cant get a good tone dialed in. I was playing a gibby with 490/498t before. Is it me or do things really need to change with EMG pickups. and this is the nicest truckster I could find and I must have played 5 or 6 of them here locally.

sounds like you just experienced the diff. between active and passive pups!!!you may be more of a vintage cat

yup thats the EMG talking. I think they're very good for chugga chug type metal but really lack the dynamics and harmonics for cleans and leads. However the 18V mod you can do looks very intruiging and i've heard very good feedback about it. Basically its wiring two 9v batteries in series... results in much warmer more dynamic tones.

it does the chugga chugga, and Im one of the weirdo's that like the paintjob. I'd love to figure out how to do the 18v mod, problem is...where to stash the other battery

I never really liked actives with the Rectifier line. I agree they didn't play well together. I had a Truckster and tuned it down a whole step for Mastodon and liked the tone with my Marshall. In the end though, I prefered passive pups (especially the JB and Gibson 500t).

I just did the 18v mod this morning, it was very easy to do and not permanent. I think it sounds a bit better but not groundbreaking. May be time to part ways with the truckster, unfortunately I dont have the luxury of just having a guitar for metal riffing or i would keep it just for that

actually after a day of messing around that 18v mod is quite noticeable, might not be soo bad after all

if you want a great all around pickup i'd check out the suhr aldrich. They're very open sounding with very rich harmonics and very even sounding. I've found them exceptional for almost anything and they do metal with ease. I still have my ec-1000 with emgs when i get into my metal moods, but my McCarty with the Aldriches does it all.

I've heard nothing but positives about the Suhr Aldrich pickup. It's definitely on my to do list.
