LSC - using FX loop, but no FX

I have the effects loop engaged on my LSC so I can use the master output and boost function... but I don't use effects in the loop. So, I never thought the "send" level would matter & turned it down all the way. Well, last night, I reached back there & turned the send level up & got the volume increase (& slight tone change) I wasn't expecting. So...

Is there a recommended level on the send if you don't have anything in the loop (0%? 50%? cranked?)? I couldn't find anything in the manual.

I set mine at 3:00 I didn't notice a tone change, just louder.

Right above the knob, it shows the 11:00 - 1:00 range as "Normal".

I'm going to be trying some effects through the loop (Chorus, Phaser, Delay and Tremolo) and would love to hear about anyone's experience doing this.

I now set mine to noon. Previoiusly mine was at 0 (Relatively) and noticed a HUGE boost when I brought it up.
