Hi,

I know that the LSC comes with a 5U4GB but when I went to get a spare the shop was told by the Mesa rep they were now recommending the 5U4G. Is this true?

I've got the valve home to test it and of course being the big bottle, it means that the valve grate won't fit back on (doh!), but aren't they rated differently too?

Does anyone know if Mesa is stopping the 5U4GB and now recommending the G? I am going to take it back because of the grate anyway, as I don't my 150 pounds of valves unprotected, but want to go in armed with the truth! :)

Thanks in advance!

Either tube will work.I find it odd that they would recomend the 5U4G over the GB.The GB is a later "upgraded" version and has slightly higher ratings.I suspect the shop is giving you a song and dance because they dont happen to have a 5U4GB.Why would a manufacturer tell you to use a tube with lower ratings than the original. You can use the 5U4G,but the GB will be a sturdier choice.

Thanks for the response, I had a feeling that was the case. I'll get them to change it to a GB as I don't want to be using the amp without the valve guard either.
