Man I have been back and forth with channel 3 ever since I got it. I have so many just OK tones and I'm looking for some magic on Ch.3. I play heavier-BIG- hard rock and metal. I dont wanna get a trebly metal tone cause then I can't play hard rock. Kind of like Lamb of God meets the Black Crows kinda tone. Any suggestions would be great.

When I bought my Mark V. I assumed I would be using channel 2 for classic rock and channel 3 for metalish rock. After a year of twinkning I have settled on channel 2 for classic rock and use an OD on channel 2 for heavier. I think the OD on channel 2 sounds awesome myself.
I find channel 3's Mark IV mode has a great heavy tone but you really cant back off of it. Best when server with lots of gain.
I am starting to like channel 3 best with lower gain setting
IIc+ I havent bonded with at a high gain sound.
When tweaking extreme mode I find myself trying to make it sound like channel 2 anyway.

Anyway my 2 cents ... happy hunting

Extreme mode not workin' for ya? To me, it's the tightest mode on the amp and it has a natural EQ curve to it so it's very easy to dial in. I don't wanna give too much EQ info, since pickups and speakers vary and figure into it. I'd say Treble, Mid and Bass at 12:00 is a good place to start, bright switch off. Ge the best tone you can and then kick in the graphic or preset eq. And Pentode, also.

I think Extreme is the mode that covers the most ground.

Yea man I totally agree about Channel 2 and kickin in the OD. And I have been playing extreme mode for a year now. But I love the solo sounds of the Mark iv mode. Wish I could footswitch them 2 modes. I have so many different settings, maybe it's just my ears on that particular day. And yes the Channel 3 does work well for low gain sounds. Looks like both you guys have hit home on some points that I'v never really came out and acknowledged. Thanks

+1 on CH2 MK1 with OD pedal. Outstanding option to get everything from classic to hard rock imho

CH3 had been my nemesis since day 1, until I stopped searching for high gain sounds that I would like. IIC doesn't work for me as it's too thin, and MK4 / Extreme were too brittle at high gain

I lowered gain, trebble and presence (almost off) in Mk4, shuttling between pentode / triode and found nirvana in the edge of breakup zone, riding guitar volume for texture variation. I am now happy with MK4, and will start experimenting with extreme when mood dictates, but for now, I'm enjoying playing without endless tweaking and frustration

Yes the endless tweaking gets frustrated sometimes, but when I just think I have tweaked the knobs so far outta wack on getting back a good sound, there always comes a great brand new tone just a couple tweaks away. Wish I could digitally store all these tweaks sometimes.
