Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones

just watched it, this weekend.
a most excellent movie. i highly recommend it. possibly the stones at their very best, and captured on film, with a pretty decent remix. i believe andy johns did the original mix.

first released in 1974, filmed in 16mm by Bob Freeze and Steve Gebhardt of Butterfly Films owned by John Lennon during four shows in Fort Worth and Houston, Texas, during the band's 1972 North American Tour in support of their classic 1972 album Exile on Main St.

The concerts were recorded in 32 tracks and the soundtrack was mixed in Twickenham Studios in England. In its initial U.S. theatrical run it was released in "Quadrasound" which was a variation of the four-track magnetic sound format.

On October 12, 2010, it was issued on DVD and Blu-Ray, digitally re-mastered

"Brown Sugar"
"Bitch"
"Gimme Shelter"
"Dead Flowers"
"Happy"
"Tumbling Dice"
"Love in Vain"
"Sweet Virginia"
"You Can't Always Get What You Want"
"All Down the Line"
"Midnight Rambler"
"Bye Bye Johnny"
"Rip This Joint"
"Jumping Jack Flash"
"Street Fighting Man"

That sounds like one I'd like to get. My favorite era for the Stones is definitely from Beggars Banquet (1968) through Exile on Main Street (1972).
I bought a DVD copy of Gimme Shelter a few months ago. I actually saw that movie in the theater when I was a kid. I think I was too young to really grasp what was going on however. I was 12 or 13 years old in 1970 when I saw it.

I saw this one a couple of weeks ago on cable... most definitely worth checking out. The wife heard me listening to it and came and watched too; she's a HUGE Stones fan. We've seen them like 5 times I think...every show seems better than the last.

yes, it's amazing how solid the band is on this set of performances, god knows i've seen them live several times, and mostly left me wondering why i bothered.

the timing, between richards and watts, during this concert, should be mandatory groove practice for every rock guitarist.
phuck a metronome!!
LOL

In 2008 I went to see Shine a Light when it played at the IMAX Theater. At the Minnesota Zoo of all places.
I really enjoyed it. Let me tell you though, seeing Keith Richards up close on a movie screen that's eight stories tall and the size of half of a football field.....

My earliest memory of the Stones is seeing "The Rolling Stones At the Max" in the IMAX theatre at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, IL. That was about the time of the Steel Wheels tour. I was around 12. Great stuff. I've got to check out this movie though. Agreed that this is the Stones in their prime!
