Yesterday saw a guy turning his Rec on... for the amp to heat up, then, when we band was about to play, he put the amp on top of the cab and connected the cab.... Isn't this this bad for the amp?
Or you can connect them amp without speaker load, unless you don't take the amp of standby????
I know i read about this somewhere but just can't find it!

Yes. You can turn your amp power on without a speaker load
ONLY when standby is OFF.

I always do that when changing speaker cabinet.
That's safe to do that.

Ok...TKS!!!
A sticky should be made with CAUTIONS! or something like that!
Things you can and can't do

Typically I power up my amp on standby to warm up while I setup the rest of my stuff. It's not a big deal, provided you remember to plug your speakers in before you flip the amp off standby.

Maybe this is what made me find that awkward.
I always plug the amp before turning it on. This way i won't forget speaker load...

It's the same as treating every gun as though it's loaded.

i agree 100%. its safe to do, but i dont like to risk it. i know that if i got in the habit of letting it warm up on standby before i plugged in a cab, eventually i would forget due to the frantic state associated with trying to make sure everything's hooked up and ready to go when youre at a gig. i'd rather just play it safe.

You make it sound like someone would flip the amp on standby, then walk away for 10 minutes without finishing setup, only to rush back and strap on their guitar without plugging the cab in or placing the mic.

I set the head on the cab, power it up in standby so that it warms up while I finish setting everything up so I can sound check.

im just saying that it seems like an easy mistake to make if youre trying to set everything up quickly and make sure all the cords are going to the right places and stuff. if you feel comfortable doing it, then by all means, go for it. i personally would rather not risk accidentally flipping the switch.

Wow. I always make sure EVERYTHING is connected before power goes to anything. First, as mentioned above...I'll make sure the cab and head are all set to go and then throw it in 'standby' to get the tubes nice and warmed up. Then I'll get everything connected on the board and power that up. I usually double check everything after that before powering on my amp. With all the money I have invested in gear, it's alot easier to take the extra minute to double check everything over the alternative.

I do that too, right before it goes off standby. If you think about it, you and I have the exact same chance of f*cking up.

Put seat belts on before starting automobile, check and unload firearms before cleaning, hook up speaker cabs before powering head on.....common sense guidelines to avoid possible problems no matter how remote.
