For my 200th post I wanted to share on about the JJ 5UGB's 6L6's and EL34's!!!

I slapped them in the Roadking 1 and all is right with the world. These make the Mesa stock tubes sound like planky plodgy tone while the JJ's just send out the smooth warm crunchy bits that I love!

Mesa also gave me warranty coverage for a complete upgrade to the Roadking 1 and I am really loving this amp right now! I bought a Randall RM100 for my other rig and right now it is being used as my "b" channel for my stereo mix from my super awesome Eventide pedal board.

Im so happy that Im not thinking about selling this amp (RK1) anymore...because I was getting pretty desperate for a bit!

Congratulations, I had the same experience with their gold pin kit and KT-77's in my lonestar; the KT's are a fantastic option if you like the EL's but need better low end. I got what I wanted, Im happy as can be.

Congrats !

man I was up all night last night doing research and contemplating on wether or not a mesa boogie retube kit ( say an jjel34L gold pin option) from eurotubes would really be worth. it I have ACE head and with stock el34447's and stock 12ax7's v1 russian v2 russian v3 chinese v4 chinese v5 a balanced russian for phase inverter. The only thing that bothers me about the amp sometimes is its high end is really present and hard on the ears. I do some tweaking here and there and use my 3 band eq to tackle/cut some of the upper band frequencies (anywhere between 8 to about 15 or so Khz) this helps smooth out the tone.

I was also thinking about maybe investing in some stock el34 str 450's, and maybe try those gold pin ecc83ax7's i think in v1 and v2 and see what happens.

I would just go ahead and probably buy a kit from eurotubes but i get a little worried sometimes about how reliable they will be seeing mesa is so adament about saying oh if you use other tubes in this amp you will void your warranty and cause possible damage to your amp in the process.

Let me get this straight: there are tubes out there that will make your Mesa amp sound better but will kill it in the process? What a dilemma

hell my 5ugb4 stock rectifier tube in my head actually rattles slightly and sounds like there is moving parts inside of it when i have my head on or even on standy (doesn't transmit to the speaker so i am not to worried about that). So ya know I don't think that they always have the best tubes for your amp.

Im just a crunch guy that plays chords, notes and leads so I am happy with the sound....

But I like to learn about other things too. I am DONE with my rig and I am happy that I need nothing more for a few years....

I hear "pomp and circumstance" in my head lol

I had success with Tung Sol reissues and JJ's in the preamp. Power tubes won't matter as much, but the 450's will sound better.

Congrats man. Glad to hear things went your way. Those RM100's are the ******* ****!. I had one for 4 months and then my old TV took a **** on me (no beer and no tv make homer go crazy) I had to sell my RM. I miss it. Sold my recto too. Just have my trident left. I ve been thinking about a eurotubes kit for my stiletto.

yea all systems go for launch... Been using my eventides to make some crash Incubus type sounds and I'm aggressivley seeking ppl to help me start recording this awesome tone that wraps up my music....

And there is nothing wrong with the cleans on the RK1!

Good to know. Personally ain't too keen on them JJ in my Mesa. Have ordered two sets of matched quads of Winged C 6L6s for my Roadster, stay tuned for the update...
