I hate starting all these threads but oh well,
When i turn my rectoverb on i leave it on standby for a minute or 2 then when i switch it to on theres a little pop noise is that normal it dosnt matter if the output of the amp is down or the guitars volume is down it still makes a noise when i switch from standby to on just wondering if this is normal?
Also how hard is a tube change on a rectoverb, this is my first tube amp so im new to this.
Thank you

I have a rectoverb. I don't have a pop noise going from stanby to on. Sorry, can't help you there.

A tube change is easy.

Power tubes:
If you buy Mesa tubes, just remove old ones and replace with new. If you buy from a third party, make sure you tell them it's for a Mesa Rectoverb and they'll make sure that the tubes match the correct bias for your amp. Don't just go to a shop, pick up a set and put them in without the sales guy knowing what amp it's going in.... you can do damage to your amp. Also, if you buy 6L6's make sure the amp is set to 6L6 bias. If you buy EL34's flick the switch to EL34 bias. The switch is at the back of the amp.

Preamp tubes:
Buy what you want. Any brand. Since you're new to the tube game, I'd stick with 12AX7's until you do further research and have an understanding what preamp tubes do, how they can affect your tone and whether you would like to experiment with different types of tubes, ie. 12AT7's, 5751's, etc. There's plenty of info here if you search.

FYI, these are the tubes I'm running at the moment;
Power tubes: JJ 6L6's.
I'm going to try out Winged C EL34's tomorrow.

Preamp tubes:
V1 Sylvania JAN 5751
V2 JJ ECC83S (12AX7)
V3 JJ ECC83S (12AX7)
V4 JJ ECC83S (12AX7)
V5 Sovtek 12AX7 LPS

Good luck.

I have a series 1 rectoverb head, it dosent have the bias switch, would it still be as easy as getting tubes matched for the amp since its a series 1?
The pop is in the speakers when i switch to on im using a 2x12 8 ohm avatar cab with celestion v30s in it,
maybe i have it hooked up wrong i just have a speaker cable going from the 8 ohm jack on the back of the amp to the jack on the cab.
The cab has 2 jacks i have it in the top jack on the back of the cab idk if that matters?

The noise you are hearing is a power tube. I have had the same problem with multiple kinds of tubes, and every time I do have the problem, I change out the power tubes and the problem goes away. Its not actually hurting anything though.
