Is there any way to close an open back combo?

I have a widebody Mark IV. And I Want the low end that a closed speaker cab produces. I tried putting a piece of wood up and had about an half and inch distance from the top of the amp to closing the whole thing up. And no sound difference at all. Is there some special Wood or something i need to order because its really pissing me off..

Don't do it, your amp will overheat. The solution is a closed cab.

you can convert your amp into a head though.

An extention cab would be the best solution IMO. You can find them fairly cheap on Craigslist.
