I just got done replacing some preamp tubes on my MKIIC+. I had to remove the chassis in order to get at the V3 and V4. There must be an easier way. Anyone?

Flip it upside down (on the handle) or on its side. Set it on a table at least waist high. If it's a combo, remove the speaker (it's front-mounted, remember to unplug it first). Removing the speaker gives you a huge access hole from the front.
Hope this helps :D

Sorry, I forgot to mention that this is a small head style. I put it on a table and flipped around but there is hardware in the way. I removed the power tubes. I guess I am stuck removing the chassis.

I'll agree that it's tough, but you shouldn't have to remove the chassis. I remove the power tubes, then unplug thespeaker & reverb cables.
You should be able to get to all of them from there. I think the idea about flipping it over on it's top on a table is a good idea as well, with a flashlight you'ld be able to see the pin orientation when removing the tubes and that would make it easier to install them.
Good news is , you don't have to do it very often

The metal thing between the tubes is in the way.

I was thinking how big of a pain this is as well until I saw a GTS head shell.
He makes them in a way that if you remove the front panel you can get to all the pre's.
In the end, it's a real solution.

That Tung Sol power tube isn't looking too healthy either!

Why? Because of the black spot? Those tubes don't have more than a few hundred hours on them. I will be getting a new set in a couple of months.

It's a solution but for how much money?

Contact board member gts. His prices are competitive and his work exceptional. I put my C+ in one of his cabs. In fact, Boogiebabies is working on my C+ right now with the GTS (George) headshell.

OT: Jim: How do you like the 5881s? I was thinking of trying a duet or quad for my C+.
